Short answer
To send only your missed calls somewhere else, turn on conditional call forwarding (also called “forward on no answer”, “busy” and “unreachable”) in your carrier’s account or phone settings, and set the forward-to number. Don’t use “forward all calls”, which skips your phone entirely. Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Freedom Mobile and most VoIP systems support it.
The three kinds of conditional forwarding
- No answer: your phone rings for a set time, then the call forwards. This is the one that catches calls while you’re on a job.
- Busy: you’re already on a call, so the new caller forwards instead of hearing a busy signal or voicemail.
- Unreachable: your phone is off or out of signal (basements, rural sites, crawl spaces).
Turn on all three for the best coverage. With most carriers, the forward-to number replaces voicemail as the destination for unanswered calls.

- Find call handling / ring groups / forward on no answer.
- Forward unanswered (and busy) calls to your forward-to number.
- Keep a normal ring time on your desk phones first — then forward.

To turn it off later:

- Remove or disable the forward-to forward-to number.
- Save so unanswered calls stay in your VoIP system.
How to forward missed calls on any other carrier
Any carrier works if it supports conditional call forwarding.
- Open your phone provider’s call-forwarding settings (app, portal, or phone menu).
- Enable forwarding for unanswered calls — and busy / unreachable if available.
- Set the forward-to number to your forward-to number.
- Do not set “forward all calls” unless you want every call to skip your phone.
- Save, then use Test connection in Front&Center.
To turn it off later:
- Open the same call-forwarding settings.
- Turn off unanswered / busy / unreachable forwarding to Front&Center.
- Save your changes.
Common mistakes
- Forwarding all calls. Your phone never rings, and every call goes to the forward-to number.
- A ring time that’s too short. If you can’t get your gloves off in time, give yourself a few more rings before it forwards.
- Only setting “no answer”. Calls that come in while you’re on the phone or out of signal still go to voicemail.
- Never testing it. Call your business line from another phone, let it ring out, and make sure the call lands where you expect.
Forwarding missed calls to an AI receptionist
With Front&Center you keep your business number. You verify the line, we give you a private routing number to use as the forward-to number, and the dashboard’s connection test rings your line to confirm the setup works. Setup shows the steps for your carrier. Hear it answer a call first.
